Farris-Seaman Plants is a small company, small by choice. Our team consists of David Farris and Nancy Seaman, husband and wife. We sell perennials, hanging baskets, and herbs at local farmers' markets and at our home nursery. Our goal is to get better, not bigger. Because we enjoy doing the plant work ourselves, we hire no employees other than an occasional friend to help out for an hour or two. So, it is one of us who takes the cuttings or sows the seeds, one of us who pulls the weeds and waters the plants.
We do, however, have the help of a first-rate Marketing Department consisting of our Australian Shepherd named Rye and her assistant Gunther, a Papillon. Also, we have been adopted by a customer-friendly tuxedo cat who has assigned himself the job of Sales Rep. That's the entire company.
We sell plants only at farmers' markets in the Portland, Oregon area, and at our home nursery in Newberg, Oregon. People suggest that we get bigger, grow more plants, hire someone else to do the work. But that's not who we are. The element of our business that has never changed is that we, husband and wife, are the business. One of us will greet you at the nursery, helping you find the right plant for your garden. Being small isn't just a good way to start, it's a good way to be.
